Expungement of Juvenile Criminal Records
Expungement of a juvenile criminal record is different from having an adult's criminal record sealed. If a juvenile's record is expunged, the record is completely erased and the information should no longer be available to anyone — including law enforcement.
Records of juvenile delinquency are not expunged automatically. You must make a formal application to a civil (not criminal) court. The process can be time intensive, and the rules can be confusing in terms of the kinds of arrests and convictions that can be expunged and the types of convictions that will not be expunged.

Why Apply for Juvenile Criminal Record Expungement?
Any type of criminal record can have a negative impact on an adult's life. Job applications may be rejected, banks may deny you loans, and landlords may refuse to rent to you.
Criminal records can be even more damaging to young people. A criminal record can negatively impact college applications, federal financial aid eligibility and eligibility for participation in college sports.
Juvenile Record Expungement — A Complex Process Worth Its Weight in Gold
There are waiting periods before an application for juvenile criminal record expungement may be made, and the district attorney may successfully block expungement of a record that includes arrests for or convictions of certain types of violent crimes.
However, in many cases, expungement can be successful. I am happy to guide my clients through the record expungement process, and provide knowledgeable information about the likelihood of success and the likely negative consequences of not trying for expungement.
